If someone made me pick the recordings of one musician, on any instrument, that I enjoy more than anyone else it would be Sergei Vasilyevitch Rachmaninoff.





Rachmaninoff performed his Paganini Variations when my father, age 17 or so, was in the fiddle section of the St. Louis Symphony. Standing ovation... as he went thru the violin section he said to my dad, "Boy, was that lousey!"
